If you’ve only got a few days in Carcavelos there are some sights in and around the area that are unmissable while being conveniently close. These include:
Belem which is just a short train ride away and is a historic as well as cultural centre, the CCB. You could easily and very enjoyably spend a whole day here.
Lisbon. Walking through Lisbon is ideal but maybe not if you’ve only got a day to spend in the city. An alternative is to take Tram 28 – and go through the city from Estrella (by the Basilica) via Alfama to Graca. The tram can be busy in high season, so try to get on at the beginning, at Estrella. This is close to Santos and Cais do Sodre stations. Alternatively, check out the Bus Tour Guide here.
Carcavelos Beach. This is a wonderful place to spend a day or part of one. It’s one of the longest (1km) in the region and very popular with Lisbonites because it’s such a short train ride from the city along the beautiful Lisbon coast. And it is on your doorstep!
Sintra which is located in the green hills north of Lisbon and the place where aspirant Lisbonites would like to live. It contains so many ‘must see’ places that you need to choose how best to devote at least a day to it.
